Many people these days are in need of constipation remedies because the western diet is full of foods which will block the digestive system. Fat, Starch and other common food ingredients will cause blockages, and a lack of fiber and water will make that impossible for the body to move. Thus, we have constipation and must look for ways to relieve it.
One option for this is with over the counter medicines. Several work with natural ingredients such as fiber and magnesium to help the body move waste. Others may nit be as gentle, and really should not be taken without doctor supervision and approval. Another option is to use prescription medications. You don’t, however, want to rely on these for very long. Most dosage directions and doctors tell you these are intended for short-term use, because they are full of chemicals which may cause undesirable side effects.
Another option, and one growing quickly in popularity, is to treat the issue by natural means. Depending on the severity of your constipation, there are one or more options you may want to try at home before seeking medicine. First, try getting a surge of fiber by eating fiber enriched foods, drinking psyllium husk in water, or eating ground flaxseed with a bit of nonfat yogurt. As a general rule, give yourself a days worth of fiber in one serving to jump start your bowels.
Second, try drinking 3-4 cups of water in one sitting to cleanse you body and see if it will get things moving. If not, try taking a magnesium supplement with the water or stir 2 tablespoons of Epsom salt into 6-8 ounces of water.
If none of these remedies work after an hour or so, then you may need to try a body cleanse and if that does not work you should schedule an appointment to see a doctor and find out if something more serious is going on.
A key step in losing weight and going on a weight management program is learning how to read the nutrition labels. Remember those information boxes on the side of the food packaging? They’re there for a reason. The reason those labels are there is so that people who are counting calories and minding what they’re eating will know exactly what it is they’re eating. These labels usually list down the total fat, saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol, sodium, carbohydrates and protein, all of the things you need to keep an eye out for when trying to lose weight. Every product bought off a store shelf should have a “Nutrition Facts” label on the side and if it doesn’t then you should check out the internet (you can find anything online these days) for the information before continuing to purchase that food item. Read the label and record your consumption accordingly! Lose Weight by Dancing the night away!

A recently-released study out of Oxford further confirms what many vegans for years have been arguing: fruits & veggies rule! After studying 300,000 participants, researches concluded that the more vegetables and fruit you eat, the less you will suffer from heart disease. Indeed they found that for every additional daily serving of these life-affirming foods that you eat, your chance of having heart disease in your lifetime drops 4%. The government food bureau in the US recommends 5 servings (cups) of fruit and veggies a day, but in truth you should probably eat twice that and these foods should constitute the majority of your diet.
The amazing thing about the results of this study is that it likely underestimates the positive impacts of fresh food. I don’t know exactly how they counted vegetable servings, but I doubt many of them were garden-fresh or raw. It is well established that fresh, uncooked veggies and fruit are considerably more nutritious than cooked vegetables eaten a week after they were harvested. My guess is that eating lots of spouted, living foods, garden-fresh veggies, and seasonal, local fruits would reduce that risk of disease even more. And I also bet that it impacts go much further than cardiovascular disease, I wonder what those researchers would find if they examined cancer and diabetes rates?
So it’s quite simple. If you want a healthier heart, eat more veggies. Even better, consider adopting a raw food diet. You’ll be doing your a favor for your body, your mind, and the environment!
